THE ART/CRAFT GROUP
JCS’ Art/Craft group was established in March 2010 as the need to provide a space for creative expression for our clients was realized.
Clients, guests and volunteers gather together in a hub of activity once a week to engage in various arts & crafts which includes:
– Jewelry making
– Adult coloring-in
– Fabric painting
Here our clients enter into a world where through creative engagement, they receive a wide range of benefits. Too often, creativity and expression through alternative means is not a seen as a priority when helping get people through a trying time, however the results are undeniable.
The Art/Craft Group opens up this world for all JCS clients & the extended Jewish community.
Furthermore, participants gain a sense of accomplishment through mastery of a skill, which in turn promotes the development of self-confidence and strengthens self-esteem.
The creative way of thinking assists clients to develop coping skills and problem solve in ways they can apply to their every day lives.
Members may enjoy refreshments, socialize, and lend books from the library corner, as well as make use or our computer/internet station.
Additionally, we welcome those who wish volunteer to coordinate a specified topic/method of expression and lead a monthly group session – our clients are always excited and open to new things!
