How to give back this Mandela Day

The JCS is the umbrella body that oversees 7 unique and worthy causes. We thought we’d share a list of ways you can spend your 67 minutes this Mandela day helping your community in a way that resonates with you.

Option 1

Do you love the Antiques Roadshow, back yourself to spot a bargain? Then maybe you’d enjoy spending some time helping the Bargains Galore team. Bargains Galore is the community second hand store. Helping out here would involve giving of your time to assist the staff at our Sea Point store to style the windows at the shops in an appealing way and to dress and display the dummies in order to appeal to our clientele.

Option 2

Sadly within our community there are families who go to bed hungry. The Food Bank tackles this issue with food parcels. This Mandela Day give of your time to assist the restocking of the Food Bank. Or join our volunteer database and help us deliver these parcels to families in need while completing your daily errands

Option 3

Looking for a more creative outlet? Join our Craft Group here you would assist with the running of the art and craft group sessions for our cottage residents on a selected Monday afternoon.

Option 4

In cases where a member of the community is at risk of being homeless they are invited into our Property initiative where they are supplied with a subsidised home. In order to make each of these apartments a Jewish home they need a Mezuzah. Help us coordinate the collection and affixing of Mezuzahs in each of these apartments

Option 5

The Simcha fund ensures every Jew looks their best at their Bar or Bat Mitzvah or on their special wedding day. Help with the coordination of the donations to make sure the perfect outfit lands up on the right person.

Option 6

Would you prefer to make a difference behind the scenes? Coordinating deliveries and other similar admin task aways pile up. We could always use an extra pair of hands in the office.

Option 7

If you are open to spending more than just 67 minutes and would like a more long term commitment consider spending some time ‘Befriending’ a JCS clients. Here we would ask that you commit to a set amount of hours and coordinating with selected willing clients to set up meet ups to chat informally and get to know one another.
